Best Actress: Loretta Young
This movie is as goofy as all hell.
And I love it. But like, watching it back with a critical eye of "This won an Oscar," and it's such a goofy movie to have won. No shade to Loretta Young, I adore her, but that Swedish accent is so goofy and that milkmaid braid is so cliché and the storyline is kinda crazy. She becomes a Congresswoman in the end.
I have written on here before that I love The Farmer's Daughter, and that hasn't changed. I think my opinion on it having won the Oscar is what's changed? It's an hour-and-a-half of goofiness. That accent isn't a stitch believable.
I don't really know what else to say about The Farmer's Daughter, I'm sorry. All I can think of how goofy it was this time around.
Okay, you look at this line-up: Joan Crawford (Possessed), Susan Hayward (Smash-Up, the Story of a Woman), Dorothy McGuire (Gentleman's Agreement), and Rosalind Russell (Mourning Becomes Electra) and tell me if you would've thought Loretta stood a chance. I need to see the voting results on this one; did the rest of them vote split and Loretta won?
DID I LIKE THE FARMER'S DAUGHTER? I did, but it's goofy. This is a fun movie to just watch. It's a little crazy that it won an Oscar.
Did you like The Farmer's Daughter? What are your thoughts on Loretta Young's Oscar win?
