The answer is The Women, it's always The Women. But for the purposes of this exercise, let's tow this one along for a while.

Should I Watch The Women or The Opposite Sex?

What's the plot?

The Women: "A study of the lives and romantic entanglements of various interconnected women."

The Opposite Sex: "In this musical remake of The Women, a happily married singer lets her catty friends convince her to file for divorce."

Who's the angelic good girl wife who loses her husband to the catty Crystal?

The Women: Mary Haines, played by Norma Shearer

The Opposite Sex: Kay Hillard, played by June Allyson

Who's the better Mary?

Norma Shearer, by a mile.

Who's the catty man-stealing Crystal?

The Women: Joan Crawford

The Opposite Sex: Joan Collins

Who's the better Crystal?

Joan Crawford, and this really isn't even a question.

Who's the gossipy best friend turned enemy, Sylvia Fowler?

The Women: Rosalind Russell

The Opposite Sex: Dolores Gray

Who's the better Sylvia?

Rosalind Russell, like you even needed to ask.

Is there an amazing fashion show in this movie?

The Women: Yes, in glorious technicolor.

The Opposite Sex: Yes, in glorious Cinemascope.

Are there any men in this movie?

The Women: Only the best kind: unseen!

The Opposite Sex: Yes, for some reason.

How about a catfight on a ranch in Reno?

The Women: Yes, between Rosalind Russell and Paulette Goddard and it's glorious.

The Opposite Sex: Yes, because the only originality in this movie is the singing and dancing and the inclusion of on-screen men.

Does Mary win back Steven in the end? And is it done through exposing Crystal's affair with Buck Wintson, a radio star?

The Women: Yes.

The Opposite Sex: Yes.

And what about bitter off-screen rivals forced together in this movie?

The Women: Well, Joan Crawford was never a fan of Norma Shearer's, and she used to purposely try and ruin Norma's close-ups.

The Opposite Sex: Let's just say that the second Mrs. Dick Powell and the third Mrs. Dick Powell are in this movie and neither one particularly cared for the other.

Who's the costume designer?

The Women: Adrian, can't you tell?

The Opposite Sex: Helen Rose, can't you tell?

Is this movie still better than the 2008 remake of The Women?

The Women: Good God, yes!

The Opposite Sex: Yes, but I'm still not jazzed that there's any form of a remake of this movie.
