What I Watched in October

An overview of what I watched in October.

Oklahoma! (1955)

Showing my ass here but it's like finishing a puzzle when you realize where some of these old standards came from. If you'd asked me what musical 'Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin' was from, I can promise you I wouldn't have said Oklahoma!

Anyway, this was fine. Much better than Carousel, in my opinion.

Boeing Boeing (1965)

The plot of this one, that Tony Curtis is juggling three flight attendant girlfriends in Paris, is kinda... but it's very fast-paced and that apartment! Watch for it on a future Apartment Therapy post!

Can-Can (1960)

This was enjoyable, even though the modern dance scenes didn't really fit the 1890s Paris time period, but why worry about continuity when you've got Shirley MacLaine, Frank Sinatra and Louis Jourdan on your screen?

You'll Never Get Rich (1941)

If anybody needs me I'll be sitting here pondering if I liked this more or if I liked You Were Never Lovelier more. Honestly, they're both phenomenal.

Dinner at Eight (1933)

Jean Harlow and Marie Dressler in a movie together? I'm blessed (and horrible for waiting this long to watch it)!

Havana Widows (1933)

Gimme all the movies Joan Blondell and Glenda Farrell made together!

Sombrero (1953)

My God, Cyd Charisse was a perfect dancer.

10,000 Bedrooms (1957)

I've been wanting to watch this for ages and when I finally stumbled upon it a few weeks ago on TCM, you best believe I was sat. I think I overhyped this in my head, it's not my favourite Dean Martin movie but it was still a great romp (for context, I love All in a Night's Work and How To Save a Marriage and Ruin Your Life, to give you a sense of my taste). I'd definitely recommend this if you need a Dean fix. But good luck waiting for it to come on TCM again!

Undercover Maisie (1947)

About a year or two ago, TCM had an all-day Maisie marathon and didn't play this one. And like, I sat through every. single. Maisie. movie. and then I find out that there's one left and you just didn't play it because, what? Primetime's coming up? Grow up, Doug.

Anyway, I finally finished the series this month, and I have to say that although the quality definitely decreased as the franchise grew, this was one of the better Maisie movies.

Twice Blessed (1945)

Ohhh so this is the original original Parent Trap! (That's all I have to say about this, it was pretty meh, but at least Gail Patrick was in it!)
