What I Watched in June
An overview of what I watched in June.
The Pleasure Seekers (1964)
Gimme all the movies in the 'Mid-Century Gals Go Overseas and Find Love Amid Lush European Backdrops' genre. This coupled with Rome Adventure (1962) would make an excellent August double feature at an outdoor film night.
Happy Anniversary (1959)
It felt like the end of an era watching this; it was the first film on my Letterboxd watchlist. Anyway, it was fine. Lots of fun physical gags and a breezy, light story, but not my favourite David Niven or Mitzi Gaynor film by a long mile.
When Ladies Meet (1941)
I went in thinking this would be a breezy comedy, like 'tee hee affairs are fun' and was pleasantly surprised at the drama and heart. Joan Crawford, Greer Garson and Robert Taylor are all at the top of their game in this movie, I was rooting for them all to somehow be friends at the end of this.
Slightly French (1949)
Challenge: find a rom-com where Don Ameche isn't totally suave and charming? Did they exist? I'd find it hard to believe at this point.
ALSO WATCHED:
The Lemon Drop Kid (1951)
The Stork Club (1945)
