A Month of Gregory Peck
I'll miss your handsome face, sir!
Turns out I've seen most of Gregory Peck's iconic films, so this month was really about padding my watchlist with hidden gems and early features.
On the Beach (1959)
This was so bleak! But such a great film and the pacing was perfect. The characters so believeable. I enjoyed Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner's tentative, slow-paced romance. How terrifying that this could be a reality, and that things really haven't changed since 1959...
Duel in the Sun (1946)
Jesus, and I thought I was indecisive. I've got nothing on Jennifer Jones's character, who blows back and forth between loving Dennis Morgan and loving Gregory Peck (playing the villainous brother, imagine!) like the wind changing direction.
There's a lot of questionable antics going on here, like Jennifer playing a Native American character, but this is quite the atmospheric film, even if it does feel like an episode of Dynasty mashed with Bonzana or Little House on the Prairie.
Captain Newman, M.D. (1963)
Days of Glory (1944)
June's Star of the Month: Marilyn Monroe, it's the 100th anniversary of her birth this month. Another star where I've seen most of the 'big' films in her repertorie, so I'm looking forward to padding out what I've missed!
