What I Watched in June
An overview of what I watched in June.
Les Girls (1957)
Set in Paris, wonderfully acted, and a storyline that kept me guessing until the end. I loved Les Girls, especially Kay Kendall's sophisticated turn as Sybill Wren. I wish she'd had a longer career; her life was so tragic.
Rachel Rachel (1968)
I'm constantly amazed by Joanne Woodward and her subtle performances. In Rachel, Rachel, she's directed by her husband, Paul Newman, and she delivers a sensitive portrayal of a spinster trying to take back control of her life. I also enjoyed Estelle Parsons as Rachel's best friend.

Meh.
Storm Warning (1951)

When I saw that Ginger Rogers and Doris Day were in a film together, I squealed. They'd be perfect together, I thought. And then I read the plot summary: it involves a hate crime, the KKK, a small town, and Ginger and Doris as sisters trying to navigate around their brother-in-law/husband's (Ginger/Doris) involvement.
I thought they were both great, but it's not a film I'll be in a rush to watch again.
I Was a Male War Bride (1949)

Find me a screwball comedy that Cary Grant ain't charming in.
The Marrying Kind (1952)

I'm fascinated with Judy Holliday. She's equally adept at comedy and drama and every bit of her performances, from the way she talks to the way she carries her body and the way she says her lines, are magic.
Strange Cargo (1940)

The chemistry between Joan Crawford and Clark Gable is so palpable on screen. I love watching their collaborations.
