Audrey Hepburn A-Z: X is for...
X is for... Exhibitions!
Okay, so it was difficult to think of something for X. You try it!
In her 90th birthday year, Audrey's son Sean curated a traveling exhibition entitled 'Intimate Audrey' that featured "several hundred original and re-printed photographs, a limited amount of memorabilia, dresses and accessories, as well as her never before seen fashion drawings and humanitarian writings."
Since its launch in 2019, the 'Intimate Audrey' exhibition has been showed in Brussels, Amsterdam, and La Spezia, with future locations planned, likely for after the coronavirus pandemic is over. All of the proceeds will go to EURORDIS- Rare Diseases Europe.
In 2015, the National Portrait Gallery in London hosted a photographic exhibit dedicated to Audrey called 'Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of an Icon."
The exhibit illustrated Audrey's life, "from her early years as a chorus girl in London’s West End through to her philanthropic work in later life, Portraits of an Icon will celebrate one of the world’s most photographed and recognizable stars." For those who couldn't attend, the National Portrait Gallery hosted a Twitter Tour.
In 1999 and 2000, Powerhouse Museum in Australia presented 'Audrey Hepburn: a woman, the style' with support from the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo and The Australian Women’s Weekly. The exhibit featured 110 items of clothing from both her work and personal wardrobes, dating from the '50s to the '80s.
In addition to clothing and photographs, Audrey's script from Roman Holiday and the Vespa she and Gregory Peck rode was also on display.
And the friendship and collaboration between Audrey and Hubert de Givenchy was on display in Switzerland with the 'Audrey Hepburn and Hubert de Givenchy: An Elegant Friendship' exhibition in 2017.
Split between three venues, Château de Morges, the Musée Alexis-Forel and the Expo Fondation Bolle, this special exhibit showcased "50 original gowns, hats, and accessories; as well as 60 sketches created especially for the occasion along with previously unseen photographs," according to Skout Travel. Givenchy himself even helped arrange the exhibit, and was insistent that it be displayed in Morges, given its closeness to La Paisible and Tolochenaz.

Have you ever seen one of the Audrey Hepburn exhibitions? Or an exhibition about a movie star? I saw the 'From Philadelphia to Monaco: Grace Kelly — Beyond the Icon' exhibit in Montreal in 2013, and it was one of the highlights of my life. I'd love to see an Audrey exhibit, or even a Ginger Rogers or Esther Williams exhibit.
Come back soon for the letter Y!
