My 2022 Classic Movie New Year's Resolutions

I think I did okay with my resolutions last year? Definitely ambitious, and I definitely petered out towards the end of the year, but there's a reason why this blog became more inactive aside from the Audrey Hepburn A-Z posts: I finished my novel, revised, revised, revised, had it professionally edited by a close friend, and now it's off for queries!

I have another novel idea I'm working on this year (inspired by Doris Day/Rock Hudson comedies), but I've missed posting regularly here, so I'm going to endeavour to post more often!

With all this in mind, and knowing my own limitations (trying to watch all-new movies during 31 Days of Oscar, for example), I'm going in to 2022 knowing that I'm ambitious, but these all seem very doable.

Let's dive in!

My 2022 Classic Movie New Year's Resolutions:

1.  Finish out Ginger Rogers's filmography.

LOVE Ginger Rogers. At this point I've got 34 films left to see but they're mostly early career/late career films. I'm sure she dazzles in them more often than not.

2. Watch at least 50 Pre-Code films.

It's something I lament every year when I do my year-in-review posts, that I should watch more pre-code films. Time to actually do something about it!  I'm not going to be picky about which ones I include in this (though a later New Year's Resolution will take care of a few of them), but, thankfully, this wonderful database exists.

3. Watch all of the Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis movies.

I'm obsessed with Dean Martin and the Rat Pack, and the few Martin and Lewis films I've seen I've enjoyed (particularly Artists and Models), so let's watch them all. I honestly thought I'd seen more, but when I tallied, I need to watch 13 movies!

4. Watch 300 new-to-me old movies.

When I do my year-in-review posts, I find that I've never managed to crack 300, I'm always in the mid-high 200s. The closest I've ever gotten is 286.

5. Actually make Natalie Woods's huevos rancheros this year.

It's something I only talked about last year, and while I did try my hand at a few classic Hollywood recipes, the one that I called out by name didn't get made. Here's the recipe: Let's do this!

6. Finish Esther William's filmography.

I'm down to the last eight and at this point, it's just some of her later films, not the aquamusicals left to watch: Till the Clouds Roll By, Texas Carnival, Callaway Went Thataway, The Gentle Web, Raw Wind in Eden, The Big Show, Magic Foundation, and That's Entertainment! III.

7. Finish watching every movie nominated for Best Picture between 1930-1939.

This only amounts to 18 movies, some of which are hard to come by (hopefully they're easier to find since the last time I checked): East Lynne, Skippy, Arrowsmith, Shanghai Express, I Am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang, Lady for a Day, She Done Him Wrong, State Fair, The House of Rothschild, One Night of Love, Viva Villa!, The White Parade, David Copperfield, The Lives of a Bengal Lancer, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Les Miserables, Romeo and Juliet, and Alexander's Ragtime Band.

What are your New Year's Resolutions?
