All of Olivia de Havilland's Oscar Nominations

Since today's Oscar nomination day, let's take a trip down memory lane to see all of the films that earned Olivia de Havilland Oscar nominations!

Olivia won two Oscars in her career, both for Best Actress, and was nominated a total of five times.
Gone With the Wind (1939)  NOMINATED

The acting is top notch in Gone with the Wind (not an endorsement of the storyline or racism in the storyline), so it was no surprise that Olivia was nominated for her performance as 'meely-mouthed Melly' Wilkes. She lost to Hattie McDaniel, her co-star, and the first Black actress to ever win an Oscar.

Other Nominees: Hattie McDaniel, Gone with the Wind (WON); Geraldine Fitzgerald, Wuthering Heights; Edna May Oliver, Drums Along the Mohawk; Maria Ouspenskaya, Love Affair

Hold Back the Dawn (1941) – NOMINATED

source unknown

Perhaps most famous (or infamous) for being the film that earned her an Oscar nomination in the same year as her younger sister Joan Fontaine. I do think it's a good performance, but I have to agree that Joan was just that much better in Suspicion

Other Nominees: Joan Fontaine, Suspicion (WON); Bette Davis, The Little Foxes; Greer Garson, Blossoms in the Dust; Barbara Stanwyck, Ball of Fire

To Each His Own (1946) – WON

A tender portrayal of an unwed mother who had to give up her son recounting her life earned Olivia her first Oscar.

Other Nominees: Celia Johnson, Brief Encounter; Jennifer Jones, Duel in the Sun; Rosalind Russell, Sister Kenny; Jane Wyman, The Yearling

The Snake Pit (1948) – NOMINATED

This is one of my favourite performances, and I think Olivia should've won an Oscar for her portrayal of a woman in a mental hospital.

Other Nominees: Jane Wyman, Johnny Belinda (WON); Ingrid Bergman, Joan of Arc; Irene Dunne, I Remember Mama; Barbara Stanwyck, Sorry, Wrong Number

The Heiress (1949) – WON

I love this performance. It's so iconic.

Other Nominees: Jeanne Crain, Pinky; Susan Hayward, My Foolish Heart; Deborah Kerr, Edward, My Son; Loretta Young, Come to the Stable
