What I Watched in November
An overview of what I watched in November.
The Mating of Millie (1948)
The Bride Comes Home (1935)
Holy f*ck do I loathe Fred MacMurray's characters. I defy you to find me one movie where he's not playing a totally arrogant, pulled-up-by-the-bootstraps, curmudgeonly asshole. AND HE'S IN SO MANY MOVIES WITH CLAUDETTE COLBERT, THIS IS TERRIBLE, IT MAKES ME NOT WANT TO WATCH HER MOVIES.
No Man of Her Own (1932)
Every time I watch Carole Lombard I appreciate her talents but also feel overwhelming sadness over the tragedy of her death and the long career she was robbed of. Plus, her chemistry here with Clark Gable (pre-marriage) is off the charts.
Day-time Wife (1939)
We have, historically, given men too much power and leeway.
A Woman Under the Influence (1974)
This is where I get my movie card revoked because except The Notebook, I haven't seen any Gena Rowlands movies until the TCM Remembers tribute to her in early November. This was almost impossible to watch in its realism but god damn, she's phenomenal in this. And not to have been sleeping on Peter Falk, cause I've seen him in comedies and musicals and some episodes of Columbo, but he also took my breath away.
Bedtime Story (1964)
Marlon Brando. In a comedy? I haven't been this shocked since I saw Marlon Brando in a musical! That being said, always down for David Niven!
My Fellow Americans (1996)
Oof, some of the jokes are very outdated (racist and sexist) and I wasn't sure if this is what I needed to watch especially after... y'know, but it was a good laugh aside from those off-colour comments. Love Jack Lemmon and James Garner at any age.
ALSO WATCHED:
Stanley and Iris (1990)
My Geisha (1962) — Listen, I'll love Shirley MacLaine till my dying day, but big YIKES on this one...
Love is Better Than Ever (1952)
I've Got Your Number (1934)
The Lions Are Loose (Les lions sont lâchés) (1961)
