The Last Film of...Constance Bennett

Madame X (1966)

You know, your classic melodrama: girl from the wrong side of town falls in love with the rich, handsome, destined-for-a-bright-future boy. They marry, he gets busier as his political ambitions grow, she starts having affairs, she accidentally kills her lover, the mother-in-law blackmails her to move to Europe and never see her husband and son again, she agrees, then comes back 20-odd years later, kills another lover, and the long-lost son is assigned to be her attorney, unbeknownst to all of them (except Constance Bennett!).

Why Was This Constance Bennett's Last Film?

Because, shortly after filming wrapped, she collapsed and passed away from a cerebral hemorrhage on July 25, 1965. She hadn't made a film since the mid-1950s when she came back and made Madame X, so it's hard to say if she'd planned on coming fully out of retirement after this film.

Is This a Good Movie?

It has all the hallmarks of a Lana Turner melodrama, so if you're into that, then you'll enjoy this.
