My Favourite Katharine Hepburn Movies...as told by Letterboxd Reviews

 Happy 115th Birthday Katharine Hepburn!

In honour of her birthday, here are my favourite Katharine Hepburn movies as told by Letterboxd reviews.

Bringing Up Baby (1938)

“Top both physical comedy. A ditzy Cary Grant and a lovestruck clever Katharine Hepburn is such a good team up! I love it when the beautiful people fall or yell.” — demi adejuyigbe

“My favorite genre really is movies where flustered man gets tricked and endangered by conniving woman who thinks he’s hot and likes to make him suffer.” — nora

“WHY DIDN'T KATHARINE HEPBURN DO MORE COMEDIES” — Sara Clements

Stage Door (1937)

“*bangs fist on table* Katharine Hepburn should have gotten an Oscar for this and the fact that she didn't even get nominated is an outrage!!” — phoebe

“Katherine Hepburn showing why she is a legend.” — Rich

“Bring back zippy dialogue, bring it back now.” — Charlotte

Holiday (1938)

“Never have I felt such kinship with a character as I do with Katharine Hepburn bracing herself to go downstairs to that New Year’s Eve party.” — eely

“I blacked out when Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant invented acrobatics.” — Robin

“Katharine Hepburn is so regal. I love watching her perform, and I have to say I prefer her on-screen chemistry with Cary Grant more than her more frequent costar, Spencer Tracy. They both deliver amazing and occasionally athletic performances in this.” — Ethan Colburn

The Philadelphia Story (1940)

“This is like the 1992 U.S. Olympic basketball team of movies.” — Patrick Willems

“Movies used to be the most charming people alive doing fun plays. Katherine Hepburn RESET me. Five stars!” — kevintporter

“For a movie with such star power behind it, this doesn't feel bombastic at all. I loved all the interactions between Hepburn, Grant and Stewart; it was pure comedy gold. I am glad to know this movie revived Hepburn’s career after her previous couple of movies tanked.” — Lou (rhymes with wow!)

Woman of the Year (1942)

“I absolutely hated Spencer Tracy’s character in this but I sure do love to see Katharine Hepburn in a pant suit! You win some you lose some!” — eely

“Chose this on a whim, and whew. Pleasant surprise. Hepburn + Tracy deliver some of the best romantic chemistry I’ve ever seen. Ever, ever. Like, whoa. It felt like watching two people fall in love, literally, in real-time. I’d recommend this to anyone solely based on the sparks. They’re that good.” — Amy Hensarling

“The first Hepburn-Tracy movie. Plenty of amusing lines and some feminist ideals but tempered by the times.” — RetroHound

Adam's Rib (1949)

“Katharine Hepburn slays it as a high powered lawyer, going toe to toe with her husband in a time when it wasn't acceptable to do so. The characters suck but it's insanely fun to cheer them on as they sneak personal digs at each other in a court room setting.” — Ethan Colburn

“The acting by the quintessential duo of Hepburn and Tracy really is just phenomenal here. The social commentary and themes of the unfairness between the sexes makes this quite a timeless film as far as I'm concerned. It's modern in that sense, and the naturalistic style of acting only contributes positively to the vibe of the film.” — Nolio

“I really loved how Spencer and Katharine played such a power couple in this film. And that Katharine’s character was so head strong and went out and proved woman could do what men do, but better. In a sense, I really this role embodied Katharine herself.. which is something I really admire about her work in this film. Hands down one of my favorite roles she ever played.. and the chemistry between Spencer and Katharine cannot be missed.” — Elizabeth

Desk Set (1957)

“Google whom? MY search engine of choice is Miss Bunny Watson and her reference department girls.” — eely

“It really is a pleasure to watch Katharine Hepburn work. Here, she's playing the living embodiment of the Internet, 35 years before the World Wide Web would bring it to the rest of us. She and Spencer Tracy work their legendary chemistry, and a lot of fun ensues.” — Sally Jane Black

“Imagine calling up Google and Katharine Hepburn responds... I would be googling things all the time.” — lina
