Jessica Chastain's Oscar Dress
For the final Oscar dress featured this year, I’m going with my most recent favourite: Jessica Chastain’s gorgeous, frothy lilac gown in 2022.
I’ve been a fan of Jessica’s since she burst onto the scene
in 2011, and I’d had my fingers crossed that someday she’d win an Oscar just as
long (Jennifer Lawrence is great, don’t get me wrong, but I was firmly Team Jessica
in 2012). Finally, her shot came in 2021, when she won for The Eyes of Tammy
Faye.
Is The Eyes of Tammy Faye camp? I’d assume so (I don’t
know enough of what constitutes camp, especially after all the discourse
surrounding May December late last year), but if it’s over the top
costuming and showy details, then Jessica surely sported a bit of that Tammy
Faye excess at the Oscars in 2022, with the ruffled bottom of her lilac Gucci
gown.
It's stunning, head to toe. All sequins, custom-designed, with a gorgeous gradient from the bronze bodice down to the lilac skirt—and with her beautiful red hair added into the mix, it’s a great combination.
On the Oscars red carpet, Jessica told reporters that she
was immediately drawn to the gown because “When I saw the sketch, I was,
like, ‘You know what—this looks like a dress I haven’t seen before.’”
She said she felt it was very her “because also
there's something about it that feels very Old Hollywood...but it has sparkles,
which is very me.”
It’s just honestly so stunning. Hands down one of my
favourite looks of all time, and one I think may be at the top of the list for
decades to come.
Jessica wore Gucci jewellery to complement her Oscar gown: all of her sparkling jewels were from Gucci’s Hortus Deliciarum collection (from the High Jewellery Collection).
According to Who What Wear, Jessica wore all white gold jewellery with pops of colour—mostly pink or lilac spinels amidst the diamonds and white gold—including a fun lion-shaped ring. You can read more about her jewellery here, and see close-up shots of all the fantastic pieces.
