My 2025 Classic Movie New Year's Resolutions
Happy New Years!
I feel like I say it every year but holy, how has another year passed? I've had a lot of fun watching old movies this year, learning about 'new' stars and expanding my tastes, but next year, I think I'm going to take a look back.
So without further ado, here are...
My 2025 Classic Movie New Year's Resolutions:
1. Rewatch Fred & Ginger's movies
It's been a while since I've sat down and watched (m)any of these, maybe like once or twice when they've been a part of Fred or Ginger's Summer Under the Stars days, but it's been a long, long time since I actively watched any of them. I'd like to re-explore them all and see how it shakes out. Will Roberta still be my favourite?
2. Rewatch all the Best Actress Oscar Winners — Or Start, At Least!
I'll go more in depth on this in a separate post later this week, but for now I'll simply say: I want to start rewatching all of the Best Actress Oscar-winning performances, from Janet Gaynor's hat trick that first year all the way through to whoever is lucky enough to win in March! For fun, let's predict who I want to win and see if I'm right at the end of 2025: Angelina Jolie in Maria, is currently, my prediction.
It's a hefty list, so I plan to start, in chronological order. We'll see how far I get, but fingers crossed at least halfway? Maybe I'll be plucky and get through them all!
3. Try all of the Audrey Hepburn–themed cocktails on Cinema Sips
I'm not much of a drinker, maybe the rare cocktail on rarer occasions (although the Malibu Barbie cocktail I had last year for the Oscars was to die for), but I'm a big fan of the Cinema Sips blog and I'm always checking to see what Liz Locke comes up with.
When I saw all of the Audrey Hepburn movie cocktails I knew immediately that I wanted to try all of them! There's one for Roman Holiday, Funny Face, Breakfast at Tiffany's, How to Steal a Million, Two for the Road and Wait Until Dark at the time I'm writing this and they all sound delicious.
___
I'm only doing three this year, since two are somewhat major rewatches, so let's see where this gets me at the end of 2025!
What are your New Years Resolutions?
Ooh I like your idea of watching the Best Actress winners. Sometimes I think about watching the Best Picture winners, but frankly, there are just some films I don't want to sit through. LOL. However, the Best Actress winners might be interesting. While I like the idea of movie challenges, I always struggle with regimented ones that require me to cross titles off a list or watch a movie every day--anything that turns my movie viewing from a hobby into homework! However, I do like the idea of Best Actress winners, maybe I should be a copy cat and do the same thing.
ReplyDeleteRight now, I made up the challenge to watch a movie celebrating a star's birthday. I always like to pick movies based on whose birthday it is, kind of a small tribute. The only thing is that it requires me to watch something every day. I already missed Jan 1 (lol), so I watched two movies yesterday, one for Dana Andrews (Jan 1) and another for Anna Lee (Jan 2). Picking a category of the Oscars seems a little more attainable. Mainly my goal is to try and diversify my movie watching as sometimes I tend to watch the same movies over and over. Don't get me wrong, I love The Maltese Falcon; but I should try to watch other titles and dive deeper into other actors, genres, eras, etc.
-Kayla (Whimsically Classic)
These sound like fun resolutions. Like Kayla, I sometimes have a hard time with movie challenges, though I try to hew as close to subjects I'm obsessed with or intrigued by as much as possible. The Best Actress one sounds cool.
