What I Watched: 2024 in Review
Another year in the books!
This was the year I truly discovered foreign films and I look forward to watching more in 2025. The year I watched more silent films and more Pre-Code films. In total I watched 234 films this year and enjoy (almost) every one. Here's the full list of movies I watched in 2024.
Here's my 2023 Year in Review post, 2022 Year in Review post, my 2021 Year in Review post, my 2020 Year in Review post; and here's my 2019 Year in Review post.
Now, let's talk about the movies I watched!

Husbands (1931) because I just can’t make myself like Joel McCrea; Carol
for Another Christmas (1964) because why. I'm loathe to put any Claudette Colbert films on this list because it's not her fault she had insane chemistry with all of her co-stars but man, do I loathe Fred MacMurray characters (cough, The Bride Comes Home).

Bette or Joan? Joan. I'm a Bette stan but I'm running out of her movies!
I watched two of Bette's '50s films this year (Another Man's Poison from 1951 and Storm Center from 1956) and her very first (The Bad Sister from 1931), but I've all but run out of the films she made during her heyday and I'd like to conserve them! Of the three, though, Storm Center was my favourite.
Speaking of Joan, I'm still working my way slowly through her filmography, so I watched four this year: Chained (1934), Sadie McKee (1934), The Damned Don’t Cry (1950), and Paid (1930). Of the four, Chained was my favourite!
Liv or Joan? I don’t think I watched an Olivia de Havilland movie this year (I have so few left and I’m trying to conserve them!), but the Joan Fontaine one I watched—Letter From an Unknown Woman (1948)—I enjoyed!
Favourite Discovery Jean-Paul Belmondo. I wanted to watch more foreign language films this year, and given my (at one point in my life robust) grasp of the French language, it seemed like the easiest gateway. Belmondo had a day to himself for Summer Under the Stars and I DVR'd so many of his films and loved them all. I wish I had've recorded more, but the ones I did watch I'm obsessed with, especially That Man from Rio. I look forward to watching more of his films moving forward!
Here's what I watched from Jean-Paul Belmondo this year: Breathless (1960), Pierrot le Fou (1965), That Man
from Rio (L'Homme de Rio) (1964), Mississippi Mermaid (1969), and Love
is a Funny Thing (Un homme qui me plaît) (1969).
Favourite TCM Star of the Month: Debbie Reynolds in March! Though she got it crammed into a week at the tail-end of 31 Days of Oscar. I wish she’d gotten the month she deserved but that was a fun week of settling in to watch different eras of her career every night.
