What I Watched in September

An overview of what I watched in September.

Yolanda and the Thief (1945)

The premise was pretty meh (she thinks Fred Astaire's her guardian angel, to an almost comically sad degree) but the dance scenes were amazing.

Having Wonderful Time (1938)

It was a Ginger Rogers movie, so I was definitely having a wonderful time watching it, but it's not one of my favourites.

Brainstorm (1983)

The idea that scientists could create a machine that records your brain with an unfiltered view from your point of view is creepy enough, but when they watch the video to see what happened when a fellow scientist died while wearing it is super creepy.

The Man With the Golden Arm (1955)

One of my favourite film periods is the mid- to late-'50s. I love the aesthetic of that time period. The Man With the Golden Arm fits it to a tee. Frank Sinatra was great; Eleanor Parker and Kim Novak continue to be flawless and I loved this story.

Come to the Stable (1949)

This was such a great, inspiring movie about two nuns (Loretta Young and Celeste Holm) who want to build a children's hospital close to a rich man's house (with some great comedy, high drama and annoyingly antagonistic moments) but my favourite moment was probably Celeste Holm in full nun's habit playing tennis to win the last little bit of money required to build the hospital.

The Dark Mirror (1946)

Is this my new favourite Olivia de Havilland performance? Quite possibly. Quite possibly...
