Joanne Woodward's Oscar Dress
Did you know that Joanne Woodward made her own dress for the Oscars in 1958? Her turquoise satin strapless dress was entirely homemade (it took her two weeks to complete, once she'd finished designing it) and cost her around $100 for the materials.
Not bad when you've won an Oscar, you're newly married to Paul Newman and you're the toast of Hollywood!
She once said, "I'm almost as proud of that dress as I am of my Oscar." Joan Crawford not so much. She reportedly said, "Joanne Woodward is setting the cause of Hollywood glamour back by making her own clothes."
She was also asked if she'd be willing to donate the Oscar dress to her hometown museum (in Georgia), but she declined as she was so proud of her work.
It's a simple dress, but I continue to be blown away by how flattering it is and how stunning that rich green looks on Joanne. It's definitely one of my favourites!
