Scorpio Season: Grace Kelly

Happy Birthday Grace Kelly! The Hollywood icon and Princess of Monaco would have been 91 today, and in her honour, we're going to look into the astrology behind this powerful woman and how it influenced her.

Grace was a proud and vocal Scorpio who subscribed to astrology and truly believed her horoscope.

One thing I share with Grace: I'm also a Scorpio (though I was born on November 21, which technically makes me a Scorpittarius, as I'm on the cusp between Scorpio and Sagittarius). I've also always loved reading horoscopes and recognizing the traits within me that supposedly make up who I am.

Scorpios are defined by passion and independence. According to Horoscope.com, Scorpios are "unafraid to blaze" their own trail, "no matter what others think. They love to make statements, debate issues, and won't back down; they're all about authenticity "even if authenticity isn't pretty."

Scorpios are all about their emotions and feelings, and may seem closed off because of this. They keep secrets but want to know secrets as well. Astrology.com says "There’s no fluff or chatter for Scorpios, either; these folks will zero-in on the essential questions, gleaning the secrets that lie within." Scorpios are also strongly associated with passion and sex and create lasting friendships and deep bonds.

Grace was so obsessed with astrology that she always read her horoscope and she had her birth chart drafted to better understand her life and the role that the stars played in her life's trajectory. She reported trusted astrology so much that she entrusted it to figure out friendships and romance as well.

She always trusted people who revealed themselves to be Leos; she was adamant against consorting with Geminis until sometime in the '80s, which  however...Prince Rainier, her husband, was a Gemini.

For her 40th birthday in 1969, Grace decided to host a Scorpio Ball. It was planned by astrologer to the stars, Caroll Righter, and the invitations were designed to look like horoscopes. The party was held on November 15, 1969 at the Hermitage Hotel in Monte Carlo.

The décor featured portraits of famous Scorpios, the guests were instructed to wear Scorpio colours (black, red, and white). Guests were mostly Scorpios, though Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton scored invites, and Liz debuted the Taylor-Burton Diamond for the first time in public. Grace's birthday cake was decorated with scorpions and was so huge, it had to be cut in half to fit through the doors and then placed back together once inside the ballroom.

It sounds like it was a fun time, and no one could've pulled it off like Grace!
