Norma Shearer gets more than she bargained for when she asks a singer to pretend to be in love with her so as to dissuade her ex-boyfriend from perusing her again: he's actually in love with her!
Why Was This Norma Shearer's Last Film?
It performed poorly at the box office, and Norma, already waning on her career following the death of her husband Irving Thalberg, declined a contract renewal from MGM when it was offered to her. She slid into obscurity, married a man 11 years younger than her, and declined every offer to return to Hollywood (including what could've been an amazing turn in Sunset Boulevard!). She died in 1983.
Is This a Good Movie?
It's a romp, but there are better Norma Shearer performances in my opinion.
