The Movies I Can't Bear to Delete from My DVR: Part VI

I'm back for another edition of my annual list of movies I added to my DVR over the year and now can't bear to delete (until I own them in physical media form, at least). Here's Part IPart IIPart IIIPart IV and Part V.

Slim savings this year, but I did take up a lot of my time with my Rewatching the Best Actresses project and I got really into the Criterion Channel.

You Were Never Lovelier (1942)

I saw this a few years ago and absolutely loved it, and then I haven't noticed it since. When it came on TCM a few weeks ago, I jumped at the chance to DVR it!

Next Time I Marry (1938)

I wasn't expecting much when I sat down to watch Next Time I Marry, but I was charmed throughout! There's a pseudo-It Happened One Night plot here, with Lucille Ball's character needing to marry any man so she can inherit $20 million, and James Ellison playing the regular Joe she sets her sights on. There's pratfalls throughout, and, to be clear, this is kind of a weak film overall when held up against other films in the genre, but it's still a fun romp and I love the ending!

Million Dollar Baby (1941)

Million Dollar Baby is about a young woman who comes into a huge sum of money and how it changes her life. Ronald Reagan is in it, for some reason! Don't let that discourage you! This is very charming.

(PS. This and Next Time I Marry were on as part of an excellent TCM special theme on marrying millionaires in April and it might've been one of my favourite programming blocks ever.)

Du côté de la côte (1958)

Discovering more of Agnès Varda's films this year has been a real treat. And if there's two things I love in the world, it's old movies and the French Riviera. This was made for me and I loved every second of it!

The Wonderful World of Tupperware (1959)

I can't bring myself to delete this off my DVR. I know it's not a full-length film, but it's just so charming. I also have an old bowling short film saved from a few years ago that I can't bring myself to delete either. I just love these vintage infomercial-style shorts!
