My Favourite Grace Kelly Movies
We sadly lost Princess Grace, Grace Kelly, on this day in 1982.
I've long been a fan of the cool elegance and chicness that Grace Kelly embodied. One of the most famous women of the mid-century, Grace Kelly was at the top of her career when she gave it all up to marry Prince Rainier III of Monaco.
One can only imagine how her acting career would've panned out had she not gotten married, but her life as a princess was also of great interest to me, so in honour of her memory, and her too-short Hollywood career, today I'm sharing my four favourite Grace Kelly movies. Let's dive in!
High Society (1956)
Grace's last film, this musical is a remake of The Philadelphia Story, and she handles her own as the ice cold goddess Tracy Lord against crooners Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra while showing Hollywood just what they were losing when she sailed for Monaco.
Rear Window (1954)
Grace Kelly as Lisa Fremont in Rear Window exudes chicness, mystery, coolness and sophistication every time she's on screen.
The Country Girl (1954)
The film that landed Grace her (controversial) Oscar, The Country Girl is such a departure from the Hitchcockian icy blondes Grace embodied that it's almost jarring. The story weaves back and forth from happier times to present-day sadness, and Grace is perfection throughout.
To Catch a Thief (1955)
As the elegant Frances Steven, Grace gets to live out my dream of swanning around the French Riviera in stunning outfits, dripping with jewels, and hanging out with a debonair gentleman of mystery.
Dial M For Murder (1954)
The first film Grace made with Alfred Hitchcock might not be the best-remembered today, but it shows her dramatic strengths...and the pairing with Ray Milland doesn't hurt, either.
