Saratoga (1937)

Just the story of a man who wins a stud farm from gambling who wants to win the gambler's daughter's hand, and the gambler's daughter who hates then loves him and wants nothing to do with him owning the stud farm or her horse.

Why Was This Jean Harlow's Last Film?

Shortly after filming began in March 1937, Jean had her impacted wisdom teeth removed and it caused sepsis. She returned to filming the following month, but by May was seriously ill again. Her condition deteriorated that month, and by early June, she was hospitalized and fell into a coma that she never woke from. All of her symptoms pointed towards renal failure, though an earlier diagnosis pointed to a case of the flu (and doctors didn't know that she'd had a serious sunburn or a bad case of the flu the year before).

Jean Harlow, sadly, died on June 7, 1937. Her role in Saratoga was completed with body doubles and stand-ins, and was released on July 23, 1937. Saratoga was the second highest-grossing film of the year behind Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

Is This a Good Movie?

I enjoyed it; but then, I'd watch just about any Jean Harlow film and I'm a sucker for Clark Gable.
