What I Watched in July

An overview of what I watched in July.

Summertime (1955)

Why do midcentury movies about women vacationing in Rome or Italy just hit harder than any other genre? If I could watch movies of this ilk—Roman Holiday, Rome Adventure, Gidget Goes to Rome, to name a few—for the rest of my life, I wouldn't complain.

The Kissing Bandit (1948)

Fun and features a greatest hits of my favourite stars: Kathryn Grayson, Ann Miller, Cyd Charisse, and Frank Sinatra!

The Toast of New Orleans (1950)

I love Kathryn Grayson's films and her voice. This was a treat!

We're Not Married! (1952)

Another Ginger Rogers movie crossed off the list! This one, an anthology of sorts, about a justice of the peace who wasn't legally licensed to perform marriage ceremonies when he did, features Ginger and Fred Allen as radio announcers who can't stand each other. They're pretty funny, but the whole movie is enjoyable (there's a Marilyn Monroe segment if you're a fan).

Ship Ahoy (1942)

This movie, about a dancer with Tommy Dorsey's band who becomes an unwitting spy for the enemies during the Second World War, is not as heavy as the plot line sounds; it's actually quite a fun little musical.

Three Little Words (1950)

So many delightful songs in this charming musical.

The Last Voyage (1960)

Something else to worry about happening to me on an ocean liner, heavy architecture falling on me and trapping me...

5 Against the House (1955)

From This Day Forward (1946)

A sweet enough story.

Million Dollar Legs (1932)

This was hilarious.

Blonde Crazy (1931)

I'll take any excuse I need to watch a James Cagney movie.
