Summer Under the Stars: Elizabeth Taylor
Star of the Day: Elizabeth Taylor
The Taming of the Shrew (1967): "A fortune hunter agrees to wed a temperamental woman so his friend can court her sister."
Thank God I'm a modern woman and my rights aren't under threat! Can you imagine being a woman back when it was okay to act like this? Jesus.
How I love Elizabeth Taylor. How I love Richard Burton. How I adore them together! I confess that I've never reading The Taming of the Shrew and this is the first time I've ever seen a straight adaptation (I have seen Kiss Me, Kate and 10 Things I Hate About You and liked them with varying degrees of success). I did enjoy the acting and the production design. The costumes, especially Elizabeth's, are gorgeous. But my god, the plot. Kate should've murdered what's his face.
I do love that Elizabeth Taylor took risks; she'd never done Shakespeare before and I think she nails it (in my limited opinion, vis à vis Shakespeare).
