Summer Under the Stars: Judy Garland

Star of the Day: Judy Garland

Little Nellie Kelly (1940): "The daughter of Irish immigrants patches up differences between her father and grandfather and rises to the top on Broadway."

The way I would cut that grandfather out of my life entirely as soon as I was able! What a monster; I loathe overstepping parents and grandparents in these old films.

That aside, I absolutely adored this. Save that rushed ending that redeemed the grandfather. Also, all of the loglines said that Little Nellie Kelly is trying to rise to the top of Broadway, but that doesn't happen at all? Unless I blinked and missed it... I did enjoy Judy's rendition of 'Singin' in the Rain'!

Judy was such a star; I've got a few other of her films saved on my DVR to watch this month. When you look at her output and the mark she made on Hollywood, I'm sorry, why aren't we talking about her more? Why does the general public really only know her from The Wizard of Oz and her troubled personal life when she left such an amazing filmography behind?!

What was your favourite Judy Garland film they played yesterday? Let me know in the comments!
