Summer Under the Stars: Kirk Douglas
Star of the Day: Kirk Douglas
Top Secret Affair (1957): "A female publishing magnate tries to keep a general she hates from securing a prestigious appointment."
My disdain for Kirk Douglas is well-documented here, so I won't waste the energy rehashing it here (but fair warning, you're going to have to know how to dig. I purposely don't tag the guy if I can help it).
Suffice it to say, I chose this movie because of Susan Hayward and cackled when they mentioned how the character Kirk played was a publicity shy general. Don't make me laugh. This guy 'single-handedly ended the blacklist' and was the most perfect actor to ever act. What a stretch to play a publicity shy military man. Should've won him the Oscar. I'd go back in time and vote for him.
The only good thing about Kirk Douglas's acting career, in my opinion, is that it gave his son some nepotism and a boost to become an actual great actor and cement the Douglas Family legacy. Michael's back must hurt from carrying that legacy single-handedly.
This was fine. I hate the endings where they act like cavemen and drag the women off and they're fine with it.
(Don't fact check that last statement, I just really loathe Kirk Douglas.)
