Inside Abigail and Bessie's Apartment (ARTISTS AND MODELS)
Why are the settings of Martin and Lewis movies so much fun?
I don't know how people feel about Artists and Models compared to the other films in the oeuvre, but I'm such a fan of this one. Because of the premise (comic book fanatics, artists and models), the setting (New York City) or the actors (particularly Shirley MacLaine and Dorothy Malone)? Doesn't matter, let's dive in!
Abigail Parker and Bessie Sparrowbush live in Apartment 4A, above Rick and Eugene. As you can guess from the red wall outside their apartment, it'll be a motif throughout.
Abigail (Dorothy Malone) is a comic book artist who created Bat Lady. Bessie (Shirley MacLaine) is the publisher's secretary and the model of Bat Lady. Love those built-in bookshelves and the red and blue diamonds.
The vanity in their bedroom is enviable; as is the white and green chair in the far corner.
Did roommates really sleep like this? I can't imagine...
I do love the purple decorating scheme they've got going on.
Abigail's got great large windows to let in the natural light, which comes in handy when she quits her comic book job and goes on to more traditional drawing and anti-comics crusading.
And she loves flowers.
Loves, loves, loves them. And Dean Martin, but she's too proud for the majority of the movie.
Here's the entryway.
And a closer look at Abigail's drawing table.
And the stacks of books and knickknacks on the shelves.
The artwork looks like charming scenic paintings. You know, like of France or Italy that your mom used to have in the kitchen/dining room? Just me?
Love the lamp!
Of course, the ladies also make use of the rooftop area.
It seems to have its own greenhouse, and the ladies brought up their portable radio.
Another angle...
And Abigail and Rick once again surrounded by beautiful flowers.
While Bessie tries to seduce Eugene inside...
...the heart wants what it wants.
