Summer Under the Stars: Eva Marie Saint
Star of the Day: Eva Marie Saint
The Sandpiper (1965) - An Episcopal priest falls for a free-living artist.
One of the many films Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton made together in the '60s; this time she's an artist and he's the head of a parochial boys school where her troubled son is forced to attend. Sparks fly as she challenges his long-held opinions; Eva Marie Saint emotes from the background as Burton's wife, oblivious of the affair until she pieces it together at a dinner party and has an excellent scene on the drive home as she breaks down.
I've slowly been watching Eva Marie Saint's movies over the past year, and I'm very interested in seeing the rest of them. Highlights so far: On the Waterfront (for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress), North by Northwest, Grand Prix and That Certain Feeling (all of which played during her day-long tribute).
She's fabulous, isn't she? Glamorous, but also very talented.
