Inside David Sloane's Mistress's Apartment (HOW TO SAVE A MARRIAGE AND RUIN YOUR LIFE)
Let's take a peek inside a glamorous apartment in the heart of New York City today.
This is Dean Martin's apartment, or rather, Stella Stevens's, once he buys it for her. If you haven't seen How to Save a Marriage and Ruin Your Life, I'm begging you: go watch it!
The gist is that David (Dean Martin) finds out that his friend is cheating on his wife and thinks he's found the woman (Stella Stevens). He wines and dines her, moves her into this glamorous apartment, tricks her into thinking they'll have this clandestine romance, all under the guise of saving his friend's marriage. Only... he's got the wrong woman! I won't spoil it, but go watch it!
First, some hallway shots. It's all done up in a powder blue and white scheme. This is Muriel, and she's the real mistress that Dean Martin thinks he's wooing. She's played by Anne Jackson, who was, in real life, married to Eli Wallach, who plays Dean's friend.
Here's another shot, and at this point in the movie, this is where Dean finds out that he's got the wrong girl: Muriel's the one he should've been shooing off but he got Stella Stevens instead!
And here's a better glimpse of the hallway, with powder blue everything and deep blue couches.
So now let's look inside. Another all-white place, but Stella's character really spruces it up.
A white fireplace just seems boring to me, but I'm not bougie so.
Just about the only glimpse we get of the kitchen. Again, all-white. Oh, and I'm obsessed with Stella's outfit here.
Here's the only other glimpse we get of the kitchen this entire movie: Stella turning on the dishwasher.
Here's a few glimpses of the main bedroom. It seems to be blush pink with pink accents, which is more homey than the all-white museum look they've got going on throughout the rest of the apartment.
Stella brings the bust with her when she moves in, and it's so funny to imagine people actively going out and buying busts (or inheriting them, or being gifted them). Imagine if a loved one gifted you a bust in this day and age.
Here's our glimpse into the master bathroom. It's yellow.
I love the chair behind Anne Jackson. And the ornate light switch in front of Stella.
Anne's imparting the wisdom to leave the bottom shelf for Dean, since if he grabs in there blindly some morning for shaving cream and gets her hairspray, he won't be happy. So much to learn about this mistress game!
Back in the master bedroom with the windows out into New York City.
Boring white rotary phone. Boo!
Powder blue trimmings on the wall.
Here's the dining area.
And a glimpse of the china cabinet.
Another angle on the master bathroom. Dean's stalling so he won't have to sleep with Stella, but he also doesn't really want to break up with her either. This is after he knows that he's been pursuing the wrong woman.
And here's Stella waiting for him, none the wiser. I love how homey she's made the room look in only a few hours.
And here's another angle of the living room area. There's no television, but there is a scene where Stella's watching a portable TV, so do with that what you will.
