Talk about a mid-century home I'd love to move into: today we're looking at the home owned by Harry and Grace Bannerman from Rally Round the Flag, Boys! It's a great home, one Harry earns on a public relations specialist's salary (so there's hope yet!), and I can't wait to share it with you!
gif by me Briefly, Rally Round the Flag, Boys! is about Joanne Woodward being the town's yes woman: if there's a cause, a bake sale, a petition, a program, Joanne runs it. Paul is her patient (not-so patient) husband who finds himself drawn into the latest petition (against the military setting up a base in town) and into scandal thanks to bored housewife Joan Collins.
And it all takes place in small town Connecticut, and they're very proud of their puritan backgrounds.
From the outside, this house looks like the kind they'd sell you on for the American Dream.
Including the two kids. You never see the backyard but you have to assume there's a white picket fence.
Enviable kitchen, including those see through cabinet doors!
I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that red rotary phone.
I love that there's a bunch of high-end appliances and then just a washing machine plunked right in the middle of the kitchen area.
If you look at the artwork throughout, Paul and Joanne seem to be fans of roosters (I'm not gonna go there, after reading the Paul Newman 'memoir' but just know that I'm thinking it) and horses.
Those in-wall ovens are so cool, but serious question, are they a fire hazard? I want one.
Behind Paul you can see the stools for the dinner nook.
Here's another view of the living room, which is open into the kitchen.
Notice behind Paul.
A glimpse of the entryway behind Joanne.
The most we see of the backyard, but I'm assuming there's chic patio furniture out there.
The only time I'd ever buy that Paul and Joanne slept apart is in the movies: simple twin beds separated by a nightstand and a white rotary phone.
A glimpse of Joanne's vanity behind her.
Paul laying in the little dressing area. Note the radio behind Joanne.
On the nightstand between the beds there was also a control panel for, I assume, that in-wall television.
Wild Tuesday spotting! Here's a glimpse of the boys' room.
Interesting floor lamp behind Joanne there.
Interesting wall art behind Joanne there.
A glimpse of the landing between floors.
Another view of the boys' room, with the fun, boyish wallpaper.
Here's another glimpse of the dressing area. There's a large painting behind Paul and another vanity to his right.
And another glimpse into the kitchen, with the pink fridge accents.
And because Joan Collins plays such a key role as the wanton neighbour who wants Paul for herself, we get a few glimpses of her house as well. Here's her bedroom and dressing area.
And the rest are glimpses into her living room.
Glamour puss.
Glamour puss with tasteful accents.
Look at that reading chair.
Enviable stereo setup behind her.
Love the recess into the living room.
And here's the entry way. Love the detailing on the glass in the doorway.
