Inside Jennifer Nelson's House (THE GLASS BOTTOM BOAT)

All aboard, all aboard on the glass bottom boat, it's the greatest show that was ever afloat!

Today we're looking at the kooky, futuristic, kitschy homes featured in The Glass Bottom Boat (Doris Day's last good movie? In my estimation, anyways).

In The Glass Bottom Boat, Doris plays Jennifer Nelson. She's a widow who works for an aerospace research company and moonlights (or daylights?) as a mermaid for her father's glass bottom boat. She swims underneath the boat.

She lives in a normal enough house, though it's also an animal menagerie.

Peep those nutcracker soldiers on the fireplace.

I'm a big fan of those leafy curtains.

The corkboard of memorabilia behind her is a nice touch!

Here's the exterior: a rustic, brick red home with white shutters.

I mean, how many chairs does one woman need? (That's a serious question, I have zero in my apartment, currently. Just a couch and a computer chair...)

Forever admiring those curtains.

Not to give away the ending, but it is another angle of Jennifer's house. Also, shout out to the rotary telephone!

Now let's check out Bruce Templeton's home. It's futuristic and full of gadgets that look comical to our eyes but were probably fun back in the day.

I mean, hello! How's that for an entryway?

And a house with a hidden room behind a bookcase will never not be awesome.

Love the pattern on the area rug.

Just admiring the backyard.

My grandparents' house used to have a pink room, a blue room and a green room and the colour scheme in here is just screaming blue room.

Bruce's back patio looks very green.

Of course an aerospace genius has a futuristic kitchen with all the gadgets. The mini TV is cute!

Once you think of that sucker thing from Teletubbies, you'll never look at this gadget the same way again.

Here's one of Bruce's guest rooms, in a mustard/green colour scheme. Very 'trends to come' styling. I love the lamp!

I'm a sucker for a bar cart.

At a party Bruce throws later on, check out that food spread!

That display on the left is a work of art.

In yet another bedroom, this time red-themed.

Telephone shout out! Also, love the comforter.

Another angle on the backyard party.

The kitchen area.

I love the lamp base, on the left, and the little clocks. Plus, of course, the yellow rotary telephone.

Backyard again!

And another glimpse of the powder room.

Here's the kitchen. At this point in the film, Bruce's colleagues think Jennifer is a Russian spy, erroneously, and she knows this and is furious. She keeps calling her neighbours with nonsense messages because she knows they're all listening in. Bruce thinks it's all hogwash, but Jennifer doesn't know this, tries to fight with him and when they argue in the kitchen...

...he sticks her in the pantry.

This is a pretty kooky and fun movie, so I'd encourage you to watch it rather than let me spoil it with photos!
